Dec 07, 2022 (newstodate): Air Serbia is continuously revealing plans for new destinations and service expansion in its summer 2023 schedule.
Among the latest novelties is the opening of flights from Belgrade to Gothenburg Airport from May 18, 2023, offering three weekly rotations on the route.
The new route opening from Belgrade marks the return by Air Serbia to Gothenburg that was on the route map of Air Serbia's predecessor, JAT, until 2013.
However, Air Serbia already introduced twice-weekly flights from Nis, in Serbia, to Gothenburg during summer 2019, as the carrier won a tender for scheduled air services under a PSO contract with Nis Airport to boost the airport's connectivity.
In Scandinavia, Air Serbia has been operating five weekly rotations in summer '22 on each of its Scandinavian routes to Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo, all handled by Avia Airport Alliance under a contract renewed in May 2021.
Air Serbia also launched flights from Serbia to Finland in June 2019 with two weekly rotations, and the route was to be operated year-round if warranted by a satisfactory market response.
This turned out not to be the case, however, as the coronavirus put an end to the flights to Helsinki.
Instead, Air Serbia now connects Serbia and Finland through its code share partners Finnair and airBaltic.
