Nov 21, 2022 (newstodate): Russia is keen to see the reopening of flights to Indonesia, a prime leisure destination.
Prior to the Copvid-19 pandemic, the Russian carriers Aeroflot and Rossiya were online with flights from Moscow to Bali, but this traffic stopped as the pandemic developed.
Now, plans are to revive the traffic again in summer 2023, with two airlines keen to offer services: AZUR Air and Nordwind.
AZUR Air has reportedly already obtained the pertinent license to start flights to Jakarta, but still does not meet all preconditions.
One is to establish an own office representing the airline in Indonesia.
More crucial is the requirement to prove the availability of an en-route landing airport for refueling the aircraft. This is not just a technical issue; more challenging is to contract an airport that can guarantee safe haven for the Russian aircraft that might be arrested by requests from its rightful owner, a foreign aircraft lessor.
AZUR Air's long-haul fleet comprises 10 Boeing 767-300ER and one Boeing 7777-300ER aircraft - all leased from US and other western leasing companies.
