Nov 10, 2022 (newstodate): Cargo volumes handled at Finland's Helsinki Airport took another strong dip in October '22.
A total of 13,742 tonnes of cargo was handled, a decline by 28.8 percent, y-o-y.
After this, volumes in 2022 were 142,629 tonnes, which is still up 3.3 percent compared to last year.
In October 2022, Helsinki Airport saw Japan Airlines increasing its frequency of flights from Tokyo Haneda Airport from four to five weekly rotations using Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
However, due to the sustained Covid-19 market disruptions, and adding today's "new normal" after Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the closure of Russian airspace, Finnair is shifting its focus away from the North Asian markets to serving instead West and South Asian routes and, not least, the North Atlantic lanes.
However, this shift still does not compensate for the shortfall of the earlier large volumes of Asian cargo.
