Nov 22, 2022 (newstodate): If visions turn into reality, Europe will soon see the launch of yet another carrier to connect Europe and the USA with direct flights.
Set up by entrepreneur in the aviation business Andrew Pyne, the hub will be established at Belfast International Airport, and the new airline is poised to lift off by summer 2024, starting out with a fleet of six Boeing 737 MAX or Airbus A321 aircraft on lease contracts.
Visions are to see the fleet growing to 18 aircraft by 2028, operating direct flights to 35 European, North American and even Middle Eastern destinations.
Of special interest in the Nordic scene is Mr Pyne's close involvement as a strategic adviser to Icelandic carrier WOW Air, that went bust in 2019.
Talking to media, Mr Pyne described Fly Atlantic as a “slightly tweaked” version of the low-cost Icelandic carrier, but said WOW did not have access to the new generation of narrow body aircraft capable of non-stop transatlantic flights.
