Nov 21, 2022 (newstodate): Finnair is forced to cancel some 100 domestic, regional and international flights today due to a two-day strike since yesterday by members of The Automotive and Transport Workers Union AKT.
The union action is a harsh response to Finnair's announced plans for negotiations on the plan to increase the subcontracting of cabin service.
The cabin service for Finnair’s Singapore, Hong Kong and India routes as well as for the Doha routes from Stockholm and Copenhagen is already provided by Finnair’s partners on the routes.
If implemented, the subcontracting plan could lead to a cut of 450 jobs in Finnair's cabin services, out of its currently 1,750 cabin crew employees.
While the current strike will end by this afternoon, its effects will last longer as incoming long-haul flights from Asia and the USA on Sunday and Monday will be delayed.
Needless to say, the strike is also strongly affecting Finnair Cargo, leading to backlog and delays.
