Nov 18, 2022 (newstodate): Kazakhstan's leading airline Air Astana is poised to become the 3rd operator of the Boeing 787 aircraft in the CIS region.
The carrier has signed an order with Boeing for three Boeing 787-9 aircraft, delivered on a long-term leasing contract with ALC.
The aircraft will arrive in Kazakhstan from late 2025, with the last to follow in early 2026.
First in the CIS to take in Boeing 787 aircraft was Azerbaijan's Azal in 2014 with two aircraft, followed by Uzbekistan Airways in 2016 with seven units.
In Russia, Aeroflot, S7 Airlines and Transaero were also planning for Boeing 787 aircraft, but orders were never executed.
Aeroflot had been planning for 22 Boeing 787 aircraft; Azal had been ordering 17 units, and Transaero was in the market for four Boeing 787.
