Oct 19, 2022 (newstodate): Serbia and Turkey are moving closer towards cooperation in aviation services.
As an important step, the two countries are now determined to move beyond the existing, rather restrictive bilateral Air Service Agreement in force since December 2021.
Instead, the two parties have agreed on adjusting upwards the number of destinations, frequencies and capacities between the two countries.
The next step will expectedly see the setting up of a joint venture between Air Serbia and Turkish Airlines, long on the drawing board.
Pending government support from both sides, the planned JV will comprise the sharing of revenues on flights between the two markets, as well as coordination in route planning and scheduling.
From March 8, 2006, Turkish Airlines launched daily operations on the route between Istanbul and Belgrade Airport, Serbia, last served by the airline 15 years earlier, but later taken over by JAT.
