Oct 20, 2022 (newstodate): Still unconfirmed, hopes are growing to see Air India return services to Scandinavia early in 2023.
According to a well-informed source close to the airline, Air India will restart flights on the route connecting New Delhi and Copenhagen with the first rotation on February 2, 2023.
However, Air India's plans do not currently comprise also the reopening of flights to Stockholm, according to the source.
Air India launched flights between Delhi and Stockholm from August 15, 2017, and between Delhi and Copenhagen from September 16, 2017, both served by three weekly rotations using Boeing 787-8 aircraft.
However, in August 2020 Air India pulled out from both routes to Scandinavia as the Covid-19 closed down the markets, leaving Finnair alone in providing direct flights between India and the Nordic markets.
Also bogged down by the Covid-19, Finnair's flights on the route between Helsinki and New Delhi returned from December 6, 2021, initially with two weekly rotations and going up to three shortly before Christmas, and to four weekly rotations from February 2022.
Earlier, SAS launched flights on the route between Copenhagen and Delhi from October 28, 2008, but closed down its short-lived route already from March 2009.
