Oct 03, 2022 (newstodate): Due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the country has lost its seat on the 36 members Executive Council of the UN agency ICAO regulating the global aviation.
The loss of its seat on the Council followed after the country failed to get enough votes from member states to retain its status.
Russia actually received 80 votes, six votes short of the required number, and also failed in obtaining the right for a re-vote.
-Russia reserves the right of full membership in the international organization and will continue its work through the representation of Russia in the ICAO, as well as in specialized working groups of the ICAO, says Russia's Federal Air Transport Agency in a comment.
The Soviet Union deposited its instrument of adherence to the Convention on International Civil Aviation on October 15, 1970, and became ICAO's 120th member on November 14, 1970.
