Oct 18, 2022 (newstodate): The coming new airport serving Greenland's capital Nuuk is moving closer to reality in November 2022.
The first half of the new runway to serve Nuuk Airport is now almost ready for operations, and plans are to see the first aircraft movement on the runway on November 3, 2022.
Pending final approval by the Danish Civil Aviation Authority of installations and equipment, the new runway will then take over all aircraft movements as the final phase of construction of the new runway will close down the existing 950 m runway that has been in service for more than 40 years.
When fully completed, the new runway at Nuuk Airport will be 2,200 m and slated for opening by late 2024.
