Oct 07, 2022 (newstodate): September 2022 provided little relief in cargo volumes at Finland's Helsinki Airport.
A total of 13,570 tonnes of cargo and mail, int'l and domestic combined, was handled, down 11.7 percent, y-o-y, after a drop by 6.2 percent in the preceding month.
13.406 tonnes of cargo and mail were carried on international lines, which was also a drop by 12.6 percent; of this 13,209 tonnes were cargo alone that was down by 12.6 percent, y-o-y.
In January-September 2022 the airport is seeing its total cargo and mail volumes still up by 8.6 percent, y-o-y, but the trend remain negative.
In October, Helsinki Airport will see Japan Airlines increasing its frequency of flights from Tokyo Haneda Airport from four to five weekly rotations using Boeing 787-9 aircraft in October 2022.
However, due to the sustained Covid-19 market disruptions, and adding today's "new normal" after Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the closure of Russian airspace, Finnair is shifting its focus away from the North Asian markets to serving instead West and South Asian routes and, not least, the North Atlantic lanes.
