Oct 12, 2022 (newstodate): Excepting two months, April and September, Estonia's Tallinn Airport has seen cargo on the uptick all through this year.
In January-September 2022 the airport has thus handled a total of 8,509 tonnes of cargo and mail, an increase by 14.5 percent, y-o-y.
The dip in September was 4.1 percent, y-o-y, to 1,161 tonnes, which was, however, still the largest volume handled so far this year - but dwarfed by an unusual hike by 43.8 percent, y-o-y, in September 2021 caused by nearly 10 wide-body cargo charter flights.
During the same month, Wamos Air started operating daily all-cargo flights connecting China and Vietnam to the East Coast of the USA with its fleet of Airbus A330-200 aircraft. Four aircraft were routed via Tallinn Airport for fueling and transiting cargo shipments.
The service that stopped in February 2022 was driven by e-trade exports from China to the USA, with the flights routed via Tallinn Airport in both directions.
