Oct 13, 2022 (newstodate): The Faroese carrier Atlantic Airways is now again counting one Airbus A319 in its fleet. But probably not for long...
The aircraft is now being redelivered and repainted to Atlantic Airways after the end of a wet-lease contract with Canarian Airways since summer 2021.
-The Airbus A319 will be sold sooner or later, with no deadline set yet. But we prefer operating a single-type aircraft comprising only Airbus A320 aircraft; with our size, a single-type fleet serves us better, says Johanna a Berghi, Atlantic Airways CEO.
The carrier earlier operated two Airbus A319 aircraft, the first of which was returned to its lessor for a new life with Air Malta from October 13, 2019, while the last remaining aircraft temporarily found a new service life with the Spanish carrier One Airways, later renamed Canarian Airways, as the airline's first aircraft.
The first of two Airbus A320neo was handed over to the airline on July 12, 2019, under a leasing agreement with ALC, and the second aircraft followed by Spring 2020.
At the Paris Air Show in 2019, Atlantic Airways also placed a follow-up order with Airbus for another two Airbus A320neo aircraft for delivery in H2, 2023, and H2, 2024, respectively.
In the fleet are thus now one Airbus A320-200 and two Airbus A320neo aircraft serving a route network comprising 10 destinations including Copenhagen, Billund, Aalborg, Keflavik, Edinburgh, Oslo, Paris, Barcelona, Mallorca, and Gran Canaria.
Still in the plans of Atlantic Airways is also the opening of flights from Vagar Airport to New York in 2023.
