Jan 24, 2022 (newstodate): Turkmenistan's Ashgabat Turkmenbashi Airport may now strive for a role in Asia-Europe airfreight logistics.
The airport has successfully obtained EU's RA3, Regulated Agents Third Country Certificate, required since July 2014 for safety reasons and calling for all shipments destined for, or transiting through, the EU to be transported through a verified and approved airport.
Assisting Turkmenistan in passing the procedures has been the German FAA that inspects and certifies airports and airlines on behalf of EASA.
Operated by the Turkmenhovayollary State National Service, the 17,174m2 cargo terminal at Ashgabat Airport is designed for handling up to 200,000 tonnes of cargo per year, equipped with an air cargo ramp offering five aircraft stands, two cooling facilities and warehousing space.
