Jan 20, 2022 (newstodate): Sweden's Stockholm Arlanda Airport saw its flown cargo volumes increasing in 2021 after a weak 2020.
A total of 95,200 tonnes of flown cargo was handled, an increase by 17.7 percent, y-o-y.
Included in the total were 93,985 tonnes of international cargo, including exports dominating with 53,460 tonnes.
More than half, or 48,371 tonnes, of the international cargo was generated on the European traffic, proving the airport's sustained shortage of cargo capacity on long-haul traffic.
This may, however, change due to Finnair's allocation from October 2021 of wide-body aircraft to serve US and Asian routes from Stockholm Arlanda as its new hub outside the home turf. This had an immediate impact on the cargo statistics, with volumes rising from October 2021.
Overall, Stockholm Arlanda Airport accounts for some 70 percent of all flown cargo handled at Swedavia's 10 airports.
