Jan 27, 2022 (newstodate): Always rather anonymous in SAS releases, the SAS Group's Annual Report 2021 documents the role played by air cargo in the airline's revenue stream.
During the fiscal year November 2020-October 2021, SAS generated a total of 1,166 MSEK from sales by SAS Cargo, including cargo on passenger and all-cargo flights.
This represented 8.4 percent of the company's total revenues, an increase by 323 MSEK over the preceding year when SAS Cargo generated 877 MSEK, corresponding to 4.3 percent of total SAS revenues.
In Sweden, SAS Cargo generated 186 MSEK, in Norway 122 MSEK, in Denmark 210 MSEK - and in "other markets" 648 MSEK.
The intercontinental traffic, primarily the North Atlantic traffic between Scandinavia and the USA, was the key contributor with 1,080 MSEK; second was the European traffic generating 81 MSEK, while domestic cargo added only three and inter-Scandinavian traffic a mere two MSEK.
Still looming is a decision by the EU on 70.2 mio euro cartel fines in a case primarily filed by cargo customers in the Netherlands and Norway, with a final verdict expected by March 2022.
