Jan 26, 2022 (newstodate): Russia's Kazan Airport, in Tatarstan, is optimistically hoping to see some western airlines returning after suspension of services for a variety of reasons.
The airport is reportedly already negotiating with one unnamed airline to resume services to Germany.
-From the beginning of the 2022 summer season, foreign airlines are expected to return to their previous routes with frequency of flights at pre-pandemic level. Negotiations already at the completion stage are underway with one of the foreign airlines to open a new route to Germany, said Kazan Airport's general director at a recent meeting.
The airport is also targeting the international mail and cargo business with a project for a new postal and cargo terminal as part of a master plan 2050, developed in cooperation with the Dutch company NASO.
Among the western airlines earlier serving Kazan Airport were Finnair until September 2019, Wizz Air from October 30, 2019, airBaltic from April 26, 2017, as well as the now-defunct CSA from 2016.
