Jan 13, 2022 (newstodate): Kazakhstan's parliament has approved an agreement establishing the legal framework for direct scheduled flights between the two countries.
The agreement, originally signed in Kazakhstan's capital on December 30, 2019, will next be prepared for ratification to take effect as the country's first Open Skies agreement, allowing for flights by airlines from both parties to any destination in the respective countries.
Talks were conducted as early as in September 2018 to lay the groundwork for the new agreement, and the privately-owned Air Astana would be a candidate for launch of US-bound flights.
Already in 2010, Air Astana named Strike Aviation its cargo GSA in the US market with effect from March 12, 2010.
Time will now show if the current political upheaval in Kazakhstan and its aftermath will disrupt the process...
