Jan 03, 2022 (newstodate): Year 2021 ended well for the new Norwegian long-haul carrier Norse Atlantic Airways.
On December 29, 2021, Norway's Civil Aviation Authority issued its AOC for the carrier, opening the gates for the carrier to realize plans for transatlantic flights.
Norse now plans to start commercial operation in spring 2022 and the first flights will depart from Oslo to selected cities in the US including flights on routes from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to Oslo, Paris, and London.
In the plans are also flights from Oslo Airport to Ontario near Los Angeles, and to Newburgh near New York - both secondary airports serving major destinations at competitive airport charges, with an all-Boeing 787 aircraft fleet.
The aircraft were formerly operated in Norwegian's fleet, and while plans initially called for 12 aircraft, the carrier alter also signed a fresh leasing contract with BOC Aviation for six Boeing 787-9 aircraft for an unusually long period of 16 years, with deliveries from December 2021.
With this latest leasing contract, the fleet will comprise 15 aircraft by summer 2022.
