Jan 28, 2022 (newstodate): Lithuania's Siauliai Airport reports brisk business in 2021, ending with profits for the second consecutive year.
A major ingredient in the airport's success is the full deployment of all available land plots at the airport to aviation-related investors, generating new business potentials and employment.
In October 2021, Lithuania's Transport Competence Agency granted Siauliai Int'l Airport another five years status as international airport, securing a strong position to continue efforts to attract investors in the airport infrastructure, both relating to cargo, MRO and passenger operations.
The International Airport Certificate issued by the Transport Competence Agency proves that the aerodrome complies with the requirements of ICAO and EASA.
A former Soviet air base, Siauliai Airport operates a 3,500m CAT 1 runway and a second 3,280m runway, and is a military/commercial airport owned jointly by Lithuania's Ministry of Defense and Siauliai Municipality.
The airport is growing its importance in the aircraft maintenance segment, with the aircraft maintenance company Aviatic MRO planning for a future with aircraft P2F conversions, and currently constructing a 23,000 sq m aircraft maintenance and repair center at Siauliai International Airport, scheduled to start operations in 2022.
In September 2020, Aviatic landed an MoU with Israel's leading aerospace and MRO company, Israel Aerospace Industrie that will provide Aviatic with necessary licensing and know-how to perform P2F conversions of B737NG passenger aircraft.
Another new important asset is the recent opening by the freight forwarding company Rava Cargo of a neutral customs warehouse at the airport, becoming the first commercial cargo operator at Siauliai Airport.
