Jan 26, 2022 (newstodate): Plans are underway for a reorganization of Lithuania's three state-owned international airports, today jointly managed by Lithuanian Airports Plc.
Lithuanian Airports will be changed from a state-owned enterprise to a limited liability company by the end of 2022, still with all shares held by the Lithuanian state.
All efforts are being made to complete the interim preparations within the first half of this year, with the Plc company to become a Ltd company by mid-2022, already.
The planned change aims at strengthening the role of the Board in the management of the airports; the Board will elect the Head of the company and approve the company’s strategy, and other management functions currently pertaining to the Ministry of Transport and Communications will be redistributed and delegated according to the level of responsibility within the organization.
The reform is being implemented on the basis of decisions by the Government and the Parliament, as well as OECD's recommendations to reduce political influence in state-owned enterprises.
Since July 1, 2014, all three state-owned international airports in Lithuania have been jointly managed by Lithuanian Airports Plc.
The setup of the Plc ended a long political debate over the possible tendering of the commercial activities of the airports of Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga.
