Jan 19, 2022 (newstodate): Like many other airports, Iceland's Keflavik Airport saw its cargo volumes rising in 2021 after a disastrous year 2020.
A total of 59,274 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport during January-December 2021, an increase by 20.4 percent, y-o-y.
Airfreight was 58,188 tonnes, up 20.6 percent, and mail volumes were 1,085 tonnes, up 16.1 percent, y-o-y.
-This is not an unusual trend, seen at other airports as well. However, at Keflavik Airport we are very optimistic about the future of cargo that is a sector the airport wants to put more focus on and grow sustainably for years to come, says Gretar Mar Gardarsson, Director Airline Relations & Route Development.
