Jan 21, 2022 (newstodate): Icelandair is in no hurry to decide on a successor to its current long-haul workhorse, the Boeing 757-200.
In the fleet this summer will be 13 Boeing 757-200 and two Boeing 767-300 aircraft, alongside 14 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft to serve the airline's network.
Icelandair has earlier been planning to decide by the end of this year on the future successor to the ageing Boeing 757-200 aircraft; but according to a TV interview with Bogi Nils Bogason, Icelandair CEO, the Boeing 737 MAX fleet is performing so well at longer-than-expected range and with even less fuel consumption as anticipated that it will match the needs for a longer period.
Icelandair now expects to see the Boeing 757-200 leaving the fleet within four or five years, allowing for new thoughts on a future long-haul aircraft type without forcing a decision.
