Jan 24, 2022 (newstodate): Georgia's largest airline, Georgian Airways, has now been put on auction, facing a dire financial situation.
The carrier is caught by a mix of unfortunate factors: drop in demands due to the Covid-19, and strong competition from foreign airlines free to operate in the market.
The Tbilisi City Court has declared Georgian Airways insolvent, but allowed it to continue operations under supervision with a reduced fleet of only four against earlier nine aircraft, including one Boeing 737-800, one Boeing 737-700 and two CRJ 200.
In March 2019, Georgian Airways named US resident Roman Bokeria as its new CEO - taking over the position with no previous experience from the aviation industry.
Prior to joining Georgian Airways, Mr Bokeria was on the Residential Board at Miami Association of Realtors, serves as State Director at Florida Association of Realtors as a licensed Real Estate broker, licensed Business Brokerage broker and licensed Mortgage Lending broker in Miami.
