Jan 04, 2022 (newstodate): Seemingly contrary to earlier plans, Finnair has grown its fleet of Airbus A350 aircraft by the end of last year.
The 17th aircraft was delivered on December 31, 2021, following on the 16th delivery on September 1, 202o.
Finnair has ordered a total of 19 Airbus A350-900 aircraft, with the last three A350 aircraft slated for delivery in Q2/ 2022, Q4/2024 and Q1/2025, respectively.
The delivery of the 17th aircraft was thus pushed forward to end of December 2021, rather than Q2/2022, as planned.
But earlier in 2021, Finnair announced a creative way to add its 17th Airbus A350-900 aircraft: rather than purchasing the aircraft ordered itself, Finnair finalized a lease financing arrangement with JLPS Holding Ireland Limited as the lessor and lease servicer of the aircraft.
Through this arrangement saving the company in excess of USD 100 million in cash flow, Finnair assigned the purchase of the Airbus A350 aircraft to a third party, and will then lease it back for its own operation.
The aircraft has been delivered with an operating lease period for a minimum of 12 years, including a storage period expected to commence in Q4/2021, concurrent with the sale of the aircraft.
