Jan 07, 2022 (newstodate): Even though Finnair's cargo-only tonnes were down by 11.6 percent, year-on-year, and by 8.8 percent month-on-month, exceptionally strong demand for cargo capacity continued in December 2021.
The carrier's total cargo tonnes thus increased by 109.2 percent, year-on-year, while only by 1.2 percent month-on-month as December 2020 was a new record month during the pandemic.
In January-December 2021, Finnair cargo thus carried a total of 105,014 tonnes of cargo, an increase by 46.4 percent, y-o-y.
While still down compared to pre-corona times, loads on the Asian lanes still grew by 23.7 percent, y-o-y, to 41,750 tonnes, while loads on the transatlantic routes were up by 430 percent to 13,473 tonnes after drastically down in 2020.
European loads were almost halved in 2021, down 48.7 percent to only 4,665 tonnes.
