Jan 27, 2022 (newstodate): airBaltic claims to be the largest air mail carrier in the Baltic region in 2021.
According to the company's latest release, airBaltic carried "close to" a total of 9,000 tonnes of cargo and mail in 2021, which is actually close to volumes in 2015 when a total of 8,494 tonnes was lifted by BT - and only slightly above volumes at 7,500 tonnes in 2020 and still a far cry from 14,829 tonnes in pre-Covid 2019.
Beyond the claim to be the largest transporter by air of mail volumes in the Baltic region, airBaltic's release does not, however, shed much light on the actual volumes in 2021 to substantiate its claim in the air mail traffic.
But according to earlier information, airBaltic's air mail volumes accounted for 65 percent of the total cargo in 2019, dropping to 35 percent in 2020 as the passenger traffic shrank due to the pandemic.
The only clue to postal volumes in 2021 is that BT carried no less than 640,000 mail bags!
