Jan 07, 2022 (newstodate): New at Denmark's Billund Airport with scheduled services is the Icelandic cargo carrier Bluebird Nordic.
With the first flight on January 3, 2022, the carrier is now online at Billund with five weekly flights coming in from Keflavik to Billund, continuing to Bonn/Cologne Airport in a cooperation with UPS that has long been serving the route between Billund and Cologne with an ATP aircraft operated by West Atlantic.
Bluebird Nordic is now serving with a Boeing 737-800 converted freighter, with exports of Icelandic seafood as a strong contribution to the profitability of the route.
Billund Airport became a steady UPS destination from March 14, 2011, when the integrator UPS revised its set-up for freighter services, replacing Malmo Airport with Billund.
Bluebird Nordic took delivery of its first Boeing 737-800 converted freighter only in October 2021, aiming at taking in 25 Boeing 737-800 converted freighters till 2024, adding to its existing fleet comprising one Boeing 737-300 and seven Boeing 737-400 freighters.
On January 24, 2020, Lithuania's Avia Solutions Group signed an agreement with Bluebird Nordic's former owner, BB Holding to acquire all shares in Bluebird Nordic that continues trading under its own brand.
