Sep 01, 2021 (newstodate): Yet another new airline plans to lift off in 2021: Fly Arna.
Fly Arna will be a new Armenian national carrier, set up by a JV announced in July 2021 between the Armenian National Interests Fund and the Sharjah-based Air Arabia Group.
The coming carrier will operate as a low-cost passenger airline to be based at Yerevan Zvartnots International Airport.
Fly Arna is to apply for an AOC in the coming weeks, but so far no details on launch date, fleet size and composition, or destinations are available.
However, the JV-partner Air Arabia operates an all-Airbus aircraft fleet, indicating that this choice may spill over into Fly Arna as well.
Obtaining its AOC in July 2020, another Armenian airline FlyArmenia Airlines based at Yerevan had lofty ambitions to serve routes from Yerevan to destinations in Russia, Europe and the Middle East, including Los Angeles, Beijing and Shanghai with a growing fleet of Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737-400 aircraft, in addition to a freighter fleet comprising Airbus A300B4 and Boeing 747-200 converted aircraft.
But the carrier was soon hit by significant problems, causing it to deposit its AOC, with hopes for a resurrection later in 2021.
