Sep 13, 2021 (newstodate): Iceland seems to heading towards a drop in number of airlines serving Keflavik Airport in winter 2021/22.
So far, it seems certain that the US carriers Delta Air Lines and United Airlines will not continue their Icelandic services during the winter schedule, ending services in October 2021.
This will so far bring down the number of airlines operating at Keflavik Airport in winter 2021/22 to 15, but more airlines may also suspend year-round services.
The goal now is to see some two mio passengers at Keflavik Airport in 2021, while in January 2019 the total number of passengers through Keflavik Airport was projected to reach 11.6 million in 2020 and 14.5 million in 2025.
That was, of course, before the Covid-19 turned the global industry upside down.
