Sep 29, 2021 (newstodate): The Latvian ACMI provider SmartLynx Airlines - the country's second-largest airline - is now operating a fleet of five Airbus A330 aircraft, modified to Zero LOPA.
The aircraft have been delivered under a contract with the Chinese aircraft lease company CDB Aviation and placed with the SmartLynx subsidiary SmartLynx Airlines Malta, with passenger seats removed for all-cargo flights offering the capacity of 260 m3 and a maximum cargo weight of 50 tonnes.
According to Edvinas Demenius, VP of Sales and Development at SmartLynx Airlines, once the long-haul cargo market returns to the pre-Covid levels, SmartLynx Airlines plans to return the Airbus A330 aircraft to operate on long-haul passenger flights.
Earlier this year, SmartLynx Airlines also performed Zero LOPA modifications on two of the fleet’s A321 units to meet the growing demand for cargo transportation, becoming one of the first carriers to introduce two Airbus A321-200F, contracted to operate for DHL based at Leipzig Halle Airport.
SmartLynx Airlines is a member of the ever-growing Avia Solutions Group.
