Sep 17, 2021 (newstodate): Swedish battery developer and manufacturer, specialized in lithium-ion technology for electric vehicles, Northvolt AB is building a giga-factory for lithium-ion battery cells at Skellefteaa, in northern Sweden.
Production is scheduled to commence by the end of 2021 and will initially employ some 3,000 people, estimated to grow to not less than 10,000 by 2030.
The large new business driving industrial development in the subarctic region of Sweden is expected to create new demands for connectivity.
Heeding this call is Ryanair that has announced the opening of its third domestic flights in Sweden, connecting Skellefteaa with Stockholm Airport starting from December 2021 with initially two weekly rotations.
The two rotations are on Fridays and Sundays, ideally placed for commuting between the two destinations, and attractive for the coming large work force at the battery manufacturing plant.
Ryanair is to open its new base at Stockholm Airport from the start of the coming winter 2021/22 schedule, allocating two aircraft.
From the new base, Ryanair will operate 89 departing flights per week serving 21 new routes to 15 countries including Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Serbia and the UK - and now also flights to Skellefteaa, as well as to Malmo and Gothenburg.
