Sep 16, 2021 (newstodate): Icelandair has filed with the DOT for rights to operate a series of charter flights between Orlando and Cuba.
As reported by media, the unique request comprises a series of 13 rotations between Orlando and Cuba during the period October 5-December 28, 2021, using Boeing 757-200 aircraft.
If granted - which will definitively be vehemently opposed by US carriers - Icelandair will be able to optimize the aircraft capacity invested in serving the twice-weekly route connecting Keflavik and Orlando.
According to the schedule, the aircraft would otherwise stay idly on the tarmac at Orlando for 46 and 22 hours, respectively, incurring costs and expenses.
Driving the proposed charter flights between the US and Cuba is the US travel company Anmart Superior Travel, media say.
