Sep 23, 2021 (newstodate): Long evaluating available options for a new regional aircraft, SAS now seems to have made its decision.
Runners-up in the process were Airbus A220, Embraer 195, or at least potentially also the Superjet 100, but the choice has fallen on Embraer 195, either the E1 or the E2.
This appears through the advertisement calling for a new SAS Team & Fleet Manager Embraer, to be based in Stockholm as member of SAS Technical Operations.
The preferred candidate will have experience from Embraer 195 E1 and lead a team of seven engineers dedicated to Embraer technical operations.
The regional aircraft may be placed with a dedicated company, Airstar 4 A/S registered in December 2019.
The company is considered to become a future capacity provider to SAS that will need to invest in an aircraft type filling a gap after phasing out Airbus A319 and Boeing 737-700 aircraft.
Airstar 4 has already negotiated own agreements with the Danish union FPU, but during the Covid-19 pandemic the development of the new capacity provider was put on hold.
In the meantime, SAS' needs for smaller aircraft on regional routes are covered by contracts with CityJet and Xfly operating CRJ900 aircraft
