Aug 31, 2021 (newstodate): The Taliban is now in control of the country, and planning for reopening of Kabul Airport.
Today still named Kabul Hamid Karzai International Airport, its infrastructure and facilities are now being inspected by the Taliban authority, who is determined to reopen international and domestic flights at the earliest possible date.
-We are examining the technical problems of the airport and are considering whether we can deal with these problems on our own, a Taliban spokesman told Al Jazeera.
Both Turkey and Qatar have been in the picture for assisting in the management of the airport during an interim phase, at least.
After the final retreat from Afghanistan, the US FAA in a regulator's notice has banned civilian carriers from flying over all of Afghanistan, except for one route along the country's eastern border.
-Civil air carriers can continue to use the route for jet aircraft along the eastern border for overflights. Any civil air carrier that goes to or from Afghanistan, and also travels through the airspace of the country, must first obtain a management permit, the notice reads.
