Aug 13, 2021 (newstodate): In September, the Danish cargo carrier Star Air will reveal plans for a coming expansion of the freighter fleet.
Media have lately been speculating about Star Air's intentions based on a few short lines in a stock exchange release from ATSG:
-E-commerce merchandising continues to drive strong demand for freighter aircraft capacity worldwide, and our Boeing 767s are at the center of that global trend. We have orders from companies such as DHL, Star Air, and Amerijet to lease at least ten more Boeing 767-300 freighters next year, and demand from multiple customers for others starting as late as 2025, the Q2 status report to Nasdaq said.
The A.P. Moller Group's Snr Press Officer confirms that talks with ATSG are indeed ongoing, but no details can yet be provided on number, or version, of the coming new Boeing 767 freighters, or on whether the aircraft will be added to existing contracts with integrators, or used by Star Air itself.
However, the coming new additions to the fleet will be delivered in, or from, 2022, the company confirms.
The latest delivery to Star Air of a Boeing 767-200 freighter deployed at Leipzig Airport to serve DHL took place by early January 2021, bringing the fleet to 15 aircraft comprising 12 Boeing 767-200 and three Boeing 767-300 aircraft.
Owned by the AP Moller-Maersk Group and since May 1, 2021, managed by Peter Corfitsen as CEO, Star Air was founded in 1987 to provide uplift capacity for integrator customers as well as serving as provider of cargo charter capacity.
