Aug 25, 2021 (newstodate): Good news and bad news from Iceland's Keflavik Airport in late August 2021.
The good news is the sustained revival of Icelandair's traffic at its home base, now offering flights to 11 destinations including New York, Boston, Chicago, Toronto, Denver and Seattle with between 9-12 departures per day.
The not-so-good news for Keflavik Airport is the collapse of talks between the Icelandic Air Traffic Controllers Association and Isavia, the operator of Keflavík Airport, over a range of labor issues.
As matters stand now, a strike among ATC staff will take effect on August 31, 2021, expected to take a toll on the recovery of Iceland's air traffic and tourism - and dealing a blow to other airline operators, including PLAY that launched flights only in July this year and is now offering flights to Berlin, Copenhagen, London Stansted and Paris CDG, as well as flights to Alicante, Barcelona and Tenerife.
