Aug 02, 2021 (newstodate): The European Commission has approved a public support measure for Palanga Airport in Lithuania under EU State aid rules.
Investment aid amounting to €10.25 million is planned for the modernization of the airport’s infrastructure, including reconstruction of the runway, taxiway, southern and northern aircraft aprons, and refurbishment of engineering systems.
Comprised by the plans is the refurbishment of the airport's 2,280m runway, renewal of the taxiway and parts of the apron area.
Construction works are scheduled to start in September 2021, requiring the temporary shutdown of the airport for 45 days in September/October 2021.
The public procurement for reconstruction of the runway at Palanga Airport, announced by Lithuanian Airports in autumn 2020, was won by the Latvian company A.C.B., which has similar experience in reconstruction of the runway of Vilnius Airport in 2017.
