Aug 25, 2021 (newstodate): Greenland's government has now agreed to the reopening of flights between Iceland and East Greenland starting from September 1, 2021.
The route connecting Reykjavik Airport and Kulusuk Airport has been closed since November 2020 as part of efforts to rein in on the spreading of Covid-19, leaving the region around Kulusuk without connection to Iceland - and thus closed to the influx of tourism that is normally a key provider of employment and income in the region, as well as cargo shipments.
The route will initially be served with three rotations operated by Icelandair - earlier Air Iceland Connect that was however merged with its mother company from May 16, 2021.
