Aug 06, 2021 (newstodate): Denmark will base one Challenger aircraft permanently in Greenland as part of the Arctic Agreement signed in 2016.
So far, the Challenger aircraft has operated in Greenland during the summer period only, but it will now have a permanent year-round base at Kangerlussuaq/Sdr Stromfjord Airport, in the country's south.
Besides being an element in the general maintenance of Danish/Greenlandic sovereignty over the huge island, the aircraft will also contribute decisively to the quality of SAR and contingency plans serving and protecting the Greenland communities by its versatile capabilities to gather information, direct rescue and monitoring operations and cooperate with other agencies and units.
