Aug 16, 2021 (newstodate): The third of seven new Airbus A220-300 aircraft to be delivered to Latvia's airBaltic this year is now in the fleet.
The aircraft, the 28th in airBaltic's fleet, landed in Riga Airport on August 14, 2021, after having completed its test flight program, and is the third aircraft delivered on a sale lease-back arrangement with Aviation Capital Group.
With the first flight on July 29, 2021, the next Airbus A220-300 aircraft for airBaltic is already in its flight test program pending delivery later this month or in September.
The seven deliveries planned for 2021 are part of the follow-up order for 50 aircraft, after which the airline still holds options for a further 30 aircraft with Airbus.
Since May 2020, airBaltic is operating a single aircraft type fleet of Airbus A220-300, having phased out all Boeing 737 aircraft and stopped operating the fleet of 12 Bombardier Q400 aircraft, leased from Nordic Aviation Capital under a contract expiring in 2023.
airBaltic was the launch carrier of the Bombardier CS300, later renamed Airbus A220-300, with its first CS300 on scheduled flights from December 14, 2016.
