Jul 26, 2021 (newstodate): Encouraged by the fast recovery in this year's traffic at Keflavik Airport with so far 20 airlines operating during the summer season, another two new airlines have announced their entry.
Starting tomorrow, July 27, 2021, the Israeli carrier Arkia will make its first-ever landing at Keflavik Airport opening a series of five rotations ending September 31, 2021, bringing Israeli tourists from Tel Aviv to Iceland.
Already plying the air between Israel and Iceland with the first flight on July 14, 2021, is El Al with a series of five charter flights ending August 18, 2021 - also marking El Al's first flights into Keflavik Airport.
Israel is actually not entirely new on the airport's monitors as the now-defunct airline WOW Air introduced flights from Keflavik Airport to Tel Aviv with four weekly rotations on the route starting from September 12, 2017.
The route proved rather short-lived, however, as WOW Air pulled out from the end of autumn 2018, with its last flight on the route on October 25, 2018.
The route was designed to build up low-cost transit flights between North America and Israel via WOW Air's hub at Keflavik, competing with El Al, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines and Air Canada, all in the air between Israel and North America.
