Jul 28, 2021 (newstodate): The Russian regional carrier Azimuth Airlines is poised to become Russia's first operator of the airbus A220-300 aircraft.
So far an all-Superjet 100 airline with a fleet of 15 units in service and a further commitment to another batch of 10 Superjet aircraft to be delivered by 2026, Azimuth has signed a lease contract with ALC for six Airbus A220-300 aircraft to be delivered in 2022-24.
With 50 percent more seat capacity and a range of 6,390 km compared to the 4,200 km by the Superjet 100LR, the Airbus aircraft will open up new opportunities for Azimuth Airlines to launch new and longer routes to destinations including airports in Europe.
Based at Rostov-on-Don Platov Airport and performing its first commercial operation in September 2017, Azimuth Airlines obtained its AOC from Rosaviatsia on August 20, 2017, starting out with four Superjet 100 aircraft in the fleet.
