Jul 02, 2021 (newstodate): In 2021, West Denmark's Billund Airport continues to reclaim cargo volumes lost during 2020 as the coronavirus took off.
In June 2021, the airport handled a total of 6,594 tonnes of cargo, which was an increase by 19.3 percent over June 2020.
Volumes included 4,995 tonnes of exports that grew by 56.7 percent, as well as 1,599 tonnes of imports that were, however, still down 31.7 percent, y-o-y.
During this year's H1, the airport has thus seen total volumes up by 12.9 percent including 27,659 tonnes of exports, up 25.9 percent, and 9,230 tonnes of imports, down 13.6 percents y-o-y.
Compared to H1/2019, Billund is indeed improving in volumes in 2021, but more modestly by 3.8 percent.
Contributing to the growth in volumes through Billund Airport in 2021 are rising volumes by integrators DHL, TNT Fedex and UPS, handling of PPE shipments - and starting from Friday May 7, 2021, Turkish Cargo is operating three weekly dedicated freighters between Istanbul and Billund.
