Jun 25, 2021 (newstodate): WOW Air, now owned the US company USAerospace Associates LLC, has applied for an Icelandic AOC, according to Icelandic media.
The company thus still seems intent on setting up a new airline under the brand name of WOW air that went bankrupt and ceased all operations on March 28, 2019.
At a press conference in Reykjavik on September 6, 2019, news broke of the resurrection of the Icelandic carrier WOW Air.
The US company USAerospace Associates LLC announced that a purchase agreement had been signed for the acquisition of the WOW Air brand, which would bring back WOW Air in the air.
Initially based on a US AOC, later to be supplemented by an Icelandic AOC, ambitions were to start low-cost flights between Keflavik and Washington already in October 2019, initially with a fleet of two aircraft and planning to grow to six aircraft by summer 2020 - finally landing at some 10-12 aircraft.
In Februay 2021, Mrs Ballarin, owner of USAerospace Associates LLC, reappeared in an interview on Icelandic state TV channel RUV once again confirming her intention of seeing WOW Air taking to the air in 2021, while it appears that the company still has no staff or locality in Iceland.
Since then, rumors have surfaced occasionally, with little evidence to back lofty ambitions..
