Jun 04, 2021 (newstodate): Construction works on a new aircraft maintenance facility are now in full swing at Lithuania's Siauliai Airport.
Driving the project drafted in 2020 is the aircraft maintenance company Aviatic MRO that will establish a 23,000 m2 hangar facility slated to be commissioned already by Q2, 2022 after start of works in April this year.
The coming new facility will provide maintenance services for Airbus A320, Boeing 737 Classic and Boeing 737 NG aircraft, including D-checks, management of assets and parking.
In September 2020, Aviatic MRO also landed a strategic cooperation agreement with Israel's leading aerospace and MRO company, Israel Aerospace Industries, opening up for two significant developments at Siauliai Airport: one is cooperation in establishing the civil aviation aircraft service center, another is cooperation on conversion of Boeing 737 passenger aircraft to cargo version.
The cooperation agreement also comprises the establishment of a dual-purpose and military aircraft service base for aircraft such as the C-130 Hercules, C-27J Spartan and Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk, Airbus H-Series helicopters, as well as drones.
A former Soviet air base, Siauliai Airport with a 3,500m CAT 1 runway and a second 3,280m runway is today a key air base serving the NATO air forces supporting the monitoring of NATO's Baltic airspace.
