Jun 30, 2021 (newstodate): Massive union protests have halted Finnair's plans for establishing some long-haul routes from unspecified European destinations.
The plan would to some degree balance the shortfall of traffic from Helsinki where Finnair is today operating only 15 percent of its potential total flight capacity, as well as bringing part of the 3,000 staff currently laid off back to work.
However, Finnair's collective agreements with unions cover only flight operations out of Finland, so moving traffic away from the country would require a level of flexibility not granted by the unions.
