Jun 02, 2021 (newstodate: One Swedish airport may be up for sale to private investors: Norrkoping Airport.
Inaugurated for commercial air traffic in 1934 and thus Sweden's oldest, the airport has been owned by Norrkoping Commune since 2006 after its previous state-ownership by Swedavia/LFV.
Over the last few years, the airport has lost most of its passenger air traffic, relying instead on charter and cargo business as sole streams of revenue.
Private investors have aired interest in taking over the airport, among which is reportedly Independent Business Group, earlier based in Hong Kong but now resettling in Sweden.
A sales tender is now under preparation to test the interest in the market and eventually sell the airport with a three-year subsidy to support the start-up under private ownership.
