Jun 29, 2021 (newstodate): It now seems clear that Qatar Cargo is indeed returning Evenes to its map for all-cargo operations as runway works are completed by July 14, 2021.
The carrier has thus applied for and been approved to operate a weekly Boeing 777 all-cargo passenger aircraft flying in from Luxembourg to Harstad-Narvik Evenes Airport on Tuesdays, picking up seafood shipments before continuing to Doha on July 20 and 27, 2021.
The Evenes-operation was moved to Bodo Airport from April 22, 2021, as the runway works started at Evenes, and in July 2021 the carrier will continue routing Boeing 777 all-cargo flights from Liege to Bodo on Wednesdays, while another flight by Qatar Cargo on Tuesdays also from Liege will stop after July 13 as the Evenes operation is resumed.
During the runway construction period at Evenes Airport, the sole operator of cargo flights has been Virgin Atlantic Airways.
In cooperation with Kuehne & Nagel Norway, Virgin Atlantic on February 3, 2021, launched two weekly flights from Evenes to London Heathrow using Boeing 787-9 aircraft to lift seafood belly cargo into Virgin's route network in London, with onward transfer to the US market.
