Jun 04, 2021 (newstodate): The global Covid-19 hit hard also at Iceland's Keflavik Airport where air traffic came to a virtual stand-still for months in 2020/21.
Now, engines are roaring again at Keflavik that yesterday welcomed easyJet back on the apron with an opening flight on the route from Manchester, to be followed on June 6 by flights on the route to Iceland from London Luton Airport, and from both Edinburg and London Stansted later this month.
easyJet thus became the 8th airline to return services to Iceland so far in summer 2021.
Exactly one year ago, Keflavik Airport had only six airlines announcing firm plans for flights to Iceland, while 27 airlines were on the monitors of Keflavik Airport in summer 2017; in 2018 the number grew to 29 - and for summer 2019 early expectations were that at least 28 airlines would call at the airport.
